Edwardian "lingerie blouses" were luxury garments made from fine cottons, linens, or silk and embellished with handmade lace, pintucks, insertion lace, and embroidery. Despite the name, they were worn as daywear beneath tailored jackets or paired with long skirts. The extensive handwork seen on this blouse required many hours of skilled craftsmanship, making these pieces highly collectible today.

The small metal clips attached to the interior ties are original garter or corset attachment clips. They were designed to anchor the blouse smoothly beneath the skirt and prevent it from shifting while worn over an Edwardian corset—a wonderful detail that confirms its early 20th-century construction.
